Waste refers to solid residues generated in daily life and production activities by human beings. Due to its large volume, complex and diverse composition, as well as its polluting, resource-oriented, and social characteristics, waste requires harmless treatment, resource recovery, volume reduction, and socialized management. If waste is not properly handled, it can contaminate the environment, compromise public health and sanitation, waste valuable resources, jeopardize safety in production and daily life, and disrupt social harmony. Waste management involves promptly removing waste, subjecting it to harmless treatment, and ultimately utilizing it in a rational manner. In the process of urbanization, waste—once regarded as a burden on urban development as a byproduct of urban metabolism—has led many cities around the world to face the predicament of being "surrounded by garbage." Today, however, waste is recognized as a "urban mine" with immense development potential and an inexhaustible resource—a "resource misplaced." This shift in perception reflects both a deeper and more nuanced understanding of waste and an inevitable requirement for urban development.
Application of Atomization Systems—Spray-Based Deodorization
Waste refers to solid residues generated in daily life and production activities by human beings. Due to its large volume, complex and diverse composition, as well as its polluting, resource-oriented, and social characteristics, waste requires harmless treatment, resource recovery, waste reduction, and socially responsible management. In the process of urbanization, waste—once regarded as a burden resulting from urban metabolism—has at times led many cities around the world to face the predicament of being "besieged by garbage." Today, however, waste is recognized as a "urban mine" with immense development potential and an inexhaustible resource—a "resource misplaced." This shift in perception reflects both a deeper and more nuanced understanding of waste and an inevitable requirement for urban development.
During waste disposal, the odors generated by garbage pose a significant problem. These odors not only affect the daily lives of nearby residents but also harm the human circulatory system. They can cause irritability, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, reduced work efficiency, and impaired memory, thereby severely impacting brain cognitive functions and causing serious health consequences for humans.
The main sources of odors from waste include sulfur-containing compounds, nitrogen-containing compounds, halogens and their derivatives, hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons, as well as oxygen-containing organic compounds. These odor-causing substances can also lead to serious environmental pollution, such as acid rain, the greenhouse effect, and atmospheric pollution. Therefore, it is essential to remove odors during waste treatment.
To address odor control in waste management, Shanghai Koni Spray Systems Co., Ltd. has developed a spray-based deodorization system. Using appropriate atomization techniques, the system transforms aqueous solutions into extremely fine mist particles (~10 μm). These mist particles remain suspended in the air, where they adsorb odorous particles or molecules present in the air. Through physical and chemical interactions, this process effectively achieves odor removal.
